Labor Day is the unofficial goodbye to summer, but there are plenty of fun last minute summer activities happening around Denver! Here are some of the best events going on this Labor Day weekend:
A Taste of Colorado
Labor Day brings the 33rd annual A Taste of Colorado food fest to Civic Center, starting Friday and running through Monday, which organizers expect will draw more than 500,000 people. Some of Colorado’s favorite restaurants and food vendors, more than 50, will come together in Civic Center Park. Games, shopping and, of course, some big name music will complete the fest.
TheBigWonderful, a marketplace that brings art, music, fashion and food together in Denver, is stepping it up a notch with Blues & Brews Fest in Aurora. Featuring Otis Taylor Band, Michael Hornbuckle and Justus League at Stanley Marketplace on Sept. 3, they will be serving up beer from Oskar Blues, Sierra Nevada, Modelo and Pacifico.
Colorado State Fair
The Colorado State Fair is in it’s 144th year of sideshows, games, cuisine, competitions, prizes, music, dance, arts, rodeo, livestock, heritage, culture, agriculture and education. Fair goers can indulge in a cornucopia of traditional fair foods from turkey legs to corn dogs, corn on the cob to funnel cakes plus plenty of sweet treats and deep-fried everything. The Colorado State Fair runs through Labor Day.
If you prefer to make a ruckus this weekend—with a rodeo-themed backdrop and BBQ cook-off no less—then this event at the National Western Complex might be your jam. This year’s Riot Fest will showcase talents like The Original Misfits, Nas, Fitz & The Tantrums, Death Cab For Cutie, and Deftones, among many others, and feature sideshows and carnival rides. Riot Fest runs from Friday-Sunday.
First Friday Art Walk
Featuring 60 participating galleries, artist studios and restaurants. With the largest concentration of art galleries in Colorado, art lovers can find everything on Santa Fe from traditional art to contemporary and engaging art, including painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, graphic art and textiles.
